Becoming A More Beautiful Version Of Yourself

3 Things To Know About Weight Gain After Liposuction

by Alyssa Watson

After getting liposuction on any part of your body, you may look in the mirror and be thrilled with the transformation. Whether you now feel healthy enough to start to exercise to lose more weight, or you've used liposuction to finally reach your weight-loss goal, you'll appreciate carrying fewer pounds around.

In the days and weeks after your liposuction, if you've weighed yourself meticulously, you may notice that you've experienced some weight gain — and this could come as a considerable shock to you. Before you get too worked up, here are three things to know about weight gain that may follow liposuction.

1. Many People Deal With It

It's relatively common to gain some weight after you have liposuction. As you go through the recovery process after this procedure, you'll commonly eat less. This is because your appetite may not be where it normally is as you deal with the medication and some discomfort. However, once you begin to feel better, you'll often be eager to eat again.

Because you've likely been in a caloric deficit mode in your days of recovering, you may have noticed some initial weight loss — and once you've begun to eat again, you'll put some weight back on. This doesn't necessarily mean that you're going to negate the progress of your liposuction — it simply means that you're replacing the weight that you lost during recovery.

2. It's Not A Sign Of A Bad Procedure

It's easy to blame others when you experience seemingly unfavorable results, and you might immediately think that there was something wrong with the liposuction treatment or the clinic you visited if you're gaining weight. It's important to know that weight gain isn't a sign of a bad procedure — it's a sign that you're consuming more calories than you're burning. Once you leave the cosmetic surgery clinic, you're responsible for your own weight, and any weight gain that you experience is from your own choices.

3. You Can Lose It Again

Don't be dismayed if you notice weight gain. The good news is that you can lose back any weight that you gained to return to your post-procedure weight — and maybe even get below it. All that you'll need to do is be mindful of what you eat and how much daily exercise you get. A healthy relationship between the calories you consume and those that you burn will help you to lose any weight that you've recently gained.
