How To Recover From A Rhinoplasty

by Alyssa Watson

If you have a nose that you are less than happy with, then you should consider getting a rhinoplasty. During this cosmetic procedure, your doctor may do a variety of things including making strategic breaks to reshape the nose or they may even shave off part of the bone to get rid of any bumps. Additionally, your doctor may also fix any issues with your septum, which may be leading to problems with you being able to breathe through your nose. Once your doctor has completed the procedure, your face will be bandaged up and you will usually be sent home to recover. But how can you recover? This article will take a closer look at a few ways for you to speed up your recovery.

Avoid Submerging Your Face

If you are the type of person who likes to swim a lot of laps, then this step is probably a lot more difficult for you to do. Submerging your nose in water (especially swimming) can place a lot of pressure on your nose, which can make your recovery a lot more difficult. Additionally, even putting your whole face in something like a bathtub can also place a lot of unnecessary pressure on your nose. Depending on what was done during your rhinoplasty, you may not be able to swim for several months.

Avoid Strenuous Exercising

Cosmetic surgery requires a lot of relaxation in order to fully recover. Try to avoid any strenuous exercises or heavy lifting for at least several weeks while you are recovering. Strenuous activates may erupt the healing process inside of your nose and cause it to bleed, which is the last thing that you want. Try to take several weeks away from exercising to ensure that your body fully heals.

Don't Poke and Prod

One of the hardest things about getting a rhinoplasty is feeling like there's something stuck up your nose. Make sure that you don't poke or prod at your nose because this may cause it to bleed. Even though you may feel like you want to stick a cotton swab or something up your nose, make sure that you don't do it; no matter how bad your nose itches or is uncomfortable.

In addition to these tips, your cosmetic surgeon will send you home with a more detailed list of recovery tips. To learn more about rhinoplasty and rhinoplasty recovery, contact a cosmetic surgeon at a clinic such as Jaibaji Plastic Surgery near you.
