Are You A Smoker And Have Lip Lines? 2 Tips To Remove Them

by Alyssa Watson

If you are a smoker and have lip lines, the best thing to do is quit smoking to stop the lines from getting worse. There are nicotine patches, pills, and more to help you do this. Once you do this, there are things you can do to help to make these lines go away or diminish them, two of which are listed below.

Use Botox

Botox can be used to remove your lip lines. If your lip lines are deep, however, Botox will likely not completely remove them, but make them much less noticeable. In most cases, if your mouth is at rest and your lip lines are not visible until you smoke or smile, Botox will work well to remove them.

See a dermatologist to get a Botox treatment. They will inject the Botox into the wrinkled area with a small needle. The Botox works by freezing the muscles that are under the wrinkles, causing the wrinkles to either go away or become less diminished. If you are afraid of needles, the doctor can wipe an anesthetic over the injection site area to numb the skin.

Botox does not last forever, and you will have to return to have the procedure done again to keep the wrinkles away. The dermatologist can tell you how long it will last for the type of wrinkles you have.

Use Fillers

You can also see a dermatologist who can inject fillers into the lip lines. These fillers are generally acid-based and work instantly to smooth out the smoker's lines. Fillers work best for fine lines, but they can also significantly reduce the look of deep smoker lines. As with Botox, the filler is injected into the area. The area then instantly plumps up and you will continue to see improvement over the next few weeks. The filler will eventually break down, however, and you must return to the dermatologist to have the procedure done again.

Along with lips, you can have filler used to plump up your lips, fill in hollow areas of your face, such as your cheeks, and more. The dermatologist can give you much more information so you can decide if you would like to have fillers used in other areas of your face while you are at their office.

There are other treatment options to remove smoker lines. For example, you can choose skin resurfacing, which removes the damaged skin and promotes collagen growth. Talk with your dermatologist about this, as well as to get more information about Botox and fillers. Contact a Botox clinic near you to learn more.
